What We Do

Building the Future of Paramahansa Yogananda's Work Together

The pioneering “Father of Yoga in the West,” Paramahansa Yogananda, has uplifted the lives of millions. His work is carried on today through the worldwide organization he founded: Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.

For decades, thousands of SRF and YSS devotees around the world have volunteered their energy and enthusiasm in service to Paramahansa Yogananda’s mission. Whether serving alongside the monastics at the ashrams and temples he founded, or at the hundreds of SRF/YSS centers and meditations groups on six continents — or participating in other inspiring service projects from anywhere on the planet via digital networking — all of these activities have one aim: to share the spirit and teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

My body shall pass but my work shall go on. And my spirit shall live on. Even when I am taken away I shall work with you all for the deliverance of the world with the message of God.

A Global Volunteer Network

As the world rapidly becomes more interconnected through digital technology, our vision is to expand the global network of volunteers who offer their unique skills and experiences to support our Guru’s work.

Many willing hearts and hands are needed to grow this global community of dedicated souls. We invite you to join us in manifesting this inspiring vision as we connect with each other in a spirit of joyous volunteer service.

For many SRF/YSS devotees, the life-transforming spiritual principle of service to the guru — or guru-seva as it has long been known in India — is a key part of their spiritual practice.

When you sign in, you will find a wide variety of projects and programs – opportunities for devotees around the world to serve our Guru’s work and the global SRF/YSS spiritual family.

A wide range of service opportunities can be found at SRF temples, centers, and meditation groups worldwide — and at YSS dhyana kendras and mandalis in India and neighboring countries. All of them rely on volunteers in order to operate. If you can help, we encourage you to directly contact one of them near you. (A directory of locations for SRF and YSS can be found on their websites.)

In addition, we invite you to register on the Volunteer Portal to review our current list of other programs and opportunities to serve with SRF/YSS devotees around the world. All these projects and programs are developed under the direction of SRF/YSS monastic leadership to support the Aims and Ideals set forth by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Getting Involved — the Volunteer Portal

Chandigar group

The first step is to create a volunteer profile. The online Volunteer Portal enables devotees to list their particular skills, talents, and interests, as well as to find and work with others across the world. The skills you already have, and the desire to serve our Guru, are the only “requirements” to participate. You determine your own commitment of time and energy, and you are encouraged to plan and maintain a comfortable balance between service and your other spiritual and material responsibilities (to family, work, meditation practice, etc.).

As we work together to serve our Guru’s mission, our heartfelt dedication, service, and support will impact the lives of his countless followers and friends around the world.

Other Ways to Help

Lotus Flower

This Volunteer Portal exists to give you a variety of opportunities for service to Paramahansa Yogananda’s work. And even if your circumstances do not make it possible for you to sign up for one of the projects or initiatives mentioned on this site, there are other beautiful ways to bring into your life the uplifting power of service to God, and to God in others. For example:

Pray for others

You can participate daily, weekly, or as often as you like in the SRF/YSS Worldwide Prayer Circle. Learn more.

Be a personal example of the SRF/YSS teachings on kindness and service in your daily life

“Every day try to help uplift whoever in your environment is physically or mentally or spiritually sick, just as you would help yourself or your family,” Paramahansa Yogananda taught. “You can be helpful materially by giving to the needy; and mentally by giving comfort to the sorrowful, courage to the fearful, divine friendship and moral support to the weak. You also sow seeds of goodness when you interest others in God, and cultivate in them greater love for God, deeper faith in Him.”

Make a financial gift

Another way to join us in supporting the inspiring programs listed on the Volunteer Portal is through making a monetary gift. Most of the services provided by SRF and YSS require ongoing funding. We invite you to set up a monthly recurring donation or give a one-time gift of your choice.

All of you who wish to offer much-needed help, now or in the future, I bless. To cooperate with God’s work is to cooperate with God Himself
